Redactor records the legal basis for each redaction as a redaction code. Default code lists cover US FOIA, UK FOIA and the US Privacy Act, and an agency adds its own code list for its state law, such as the Georgia Open Records Act, the California Public Records Act, California AB 748 body camera disclosures or New Hampshire RSA 91-A.

Every action on an item is logged with user, email, IP address, date and time; a SHA-384 hash recorded at ingest is re-verified on demand and issued as a digitally signed integrity certificate; audit records are sealed so any alteration is detectable; and redaction produces a separate copy while the original is retained.
