OPEXUS FOIAXpress

Take the media half of a FOIAXpress request and return it releasable. Visit website

FOIAXpress is the FOIA request management system behind a large share of US federal agencies, tracking a request from intake through review, redaction and release.

It handles documents well and media badly, which is the gap. A request arrives with video, body-worn footage or call recordings attached; those are redacted at volume here and returned to the case with an audit record of every decision, so the statutory clock is met without an analyst working clip by clip.

The Media Half of a Request, Done Before the Clock Runs Out

Open as a two-page brief

This connector is not prebuilt. It would be built to your requirement on the REST API, webhooks and export path the platform already uses, with scope and effort agreed per engagement. FOIAXpress is the request management system behind a large share of US federal agencies, tracking a request from intake through review, redaction and release. It handles documents well and media badly, and that is the gap: a request arrives with body-worn footage or call recordings attached, and the statutory clock does not pause while an analyst works clip by clip.

How it connects

Media attached to a request would come into Redactor with the request identifier carried as an attribute, so every clip is traceable to the request it belongs to. Redaction then runs at volume rather than one file at a time, and every decision is recorded, which is the part that matters when a release is challenged.

Getting the releasable file back is where an engagement does its real work, and it is worth being exact about. The platform's documented export destinations are AWS storage and SharePoint, so the redacted output lands in a destination the agency controls rather than being written directly into the FOIAXpress case. A webhook would then notify FOIAXpress that the file is ready, since webhooks fire on media actions, metadata changes and workflow completion. Wiring that notification into the case, so the record shows the media as processed, is the integration an engagement scopes against the FOIAXpress API.

FOIAXpress would stay the system of record for the request. Its intake, its review queues, its correspondence and its statutory tracking are unchanged. What moves is the media and a notification about it.

What you can do together

  • Redact the video and audio attached to a request at volume, rather than assigning an analyst to work through clips.
  • Keep the request identifier on every item, so a released clip is traceable to its request and its decisions.
  • Hold an audit record of every redaction decision, which is what a challenge to a release actually turns on.
  • Have a workflow notify the case when media is releasable, so the request's status reflects it.

A scenario

  1. ScopingThe engagement would agree how media reaches Redactor, which export destination the agency uses, and how a notification updates the FOIAXpress case.
  2. IntakeThe footage comes across with the request identifier attached, under the library's access control and audit.
  3. RedactionFaces and personal data are detected and redacted across all three incidents in one pass, with each decision recorded.
  4. ExportThe releasable files land in the agency's own storage destination, and a webhook reports completion.
  5. ReleaseThe FOIAXpress case shows the media processed, and the response goes out inside the statutory window with the decision record available if challenged.

What stays where

FOIAXpress remains the request system of record

Intake, review, correspondence and statutory tracking stay there.

The redacted file goes to a destination you control

Documented export destinations are AWS storage and SharePoint, so it is not written directly into the case; a webhook reports that it is ready.

Every redaction decision is recorded

The audit record travels with the work, which is what answers a challenge.

Processing runs where you deploy the platform

Shared or dedicated SaaS, your own cloud, on premises, or air-gapped, with a network path to FOIAXpress where it is hosted.
