Clinical Media Attached to the Encounter, Not to a Drive
This connector is not prebuilt. It would be built to your requirement on the REST API and ingestion path the platform already uses, and PHI handling would be scoped in the engagement rather than assumed. MEDITECH is the clinical record in a large number of community hospitals and health systems, often in estates that have run it for decades. That history matters to scoping more than the API does.
How it connects
The clinical record would be read over the API, and the encounter identifier would arrive as an attribute on the media, so procedure video or a recorded consultation files against the encounter rather than into a departmental folder.
The first question is which MEDITECH generation the hospital is on, because Expanse and the older platforms do not expose the same interfaces, and an integration scoped against one is not an integration against the other. A hospital part-way through a migration is the common case, and an engagement would establish where it actually is rather than assuming the current product.
The connection carries the credential it is configured with, so what can be read is bounded by what that credential is granted in MEDITECH, rather than by the permissions of whoever is asking. PHI handling is settled first: what may be read, what may be stored outside the clinical record, how long it is kept and where processing may run. Those answers choose the deployment, which for a hospital usually means its own subscription, its own servers, or air-gapped.
What you can do together
- File procedure video and recorded consultations against the encounter, retrievable from the clinical context.
- Keep clinical media under retention and an access record of its own rather than on a departmental share.
- Read the record and the media together in one answer, each source cited.
- Establish the platform generation and the PHI terms before anything is built, which is what makes the estimate real.
A scenario
- ScopingThe engagement would confirm the MEDITECH generation in use, what PHI may be read and stored, retention, and where processing runs.
- DeploymentThe platform is placed accordingly, commonly on the health system's own infrastructure.
- SetupThe connection is configured once with the encounter mapped to an attribute, under a scoped credential.
- A studyThe recording files against its encounter under the library's access control, retention and audit.
- Follow-upA clinician reaches it from the encounter rather than requesting a copy from the department.
What stays where
MEDITECH remains the clinical record
Encounters, orders and the care record stay there, unchanged.
The platform generation decides the integration
Expanse and the older platforms differ, so which one is in use is established rather than assumed.
The credential is the boundary
What can be read is what the configured credential is granted, not the permissions of the person asking.
PHI handling is scoped, not assumed
What may be stored, for how long, and where processing runs are decided in the engagement.
