Magnet GrayKeyCase and Records Management
Recovered Media Indexed Into the Case File
This connector is not prebuilt. It would be built to your requirement on the ingestion path the platform already uses, with scope and effort agreed per engagement. GrayKey unlocks and extracts data from mobile devices for law enforcement. Because the devices it handles are often the ones nothing else could open, the material it recovers tends to matter disproportionately to a case, and leaving it unsearchable inside an extraction is the waste this connection removes.
What you can do together
- Search what was said in video and audio recovered from a locked device, instead of opening files from an extraction by hand.
- File recovered media against the case from identifiers the extraction already carries.
- Restrict recovered material to named people, which matters more here than for routine evidence.
- Keep the custody record continuous, referencing the extraction as the origin.
How it connects
The connection would read GrayKey's extraction output rather than calling a live service, so it is about picking up completed extractions from wherever examiners write them and reading the media out. Recovered video and audio would be transcribed and indexed, and the case identifiers carried with the extraction would arrive as attributes so material files against the right case.
Everything would land under the library's access control, retention and chain of custody. Access is worth particular attention here: material recovered from a locked device is frequently sensitive beyond the case itself, so an engagement would settle who may see what before anything is ingested, rather than relying on the case folder to be restriction enough.
An engagement would also scope which parts of an extraction come across. A full extraction contains a great deal that is not evidence, and ingesting all of it makes a library harder to use and a disclosure harder to answer.

A scenario
- ScopingThe engagement would agree which parts are ingested, who may see them, and how custody references the extraction.
- SetupThe connection would be configured once to pick up completed extraction output.
- After an extractionRecovered video and audio are transcribed and indexed, attached to the case and restricted to the named investigators.
- The investigationA search finds a phrase in a recovered clip and opens it at that moment.
- ReviewThe access record shows exactly who opened what, which is the question asked about sensitive material.
What stays where
GrayKey remains the extraction tool
Unlocking, acquisition and the examiner's analysis stay there.
The connection reads completed output
It picks up extractions rather than holding a live link.
Access is decided before ingest
Recovered material is often sensitive beyond the case, so who may see it is scoped rather than assumed.
The custody record continues
The library's chain references the extraction's provenance rather than replacing it.
