Evidence Reviewed Outside the Forensic Tool
This connector is not prebuilt. It would be built to your requirement on the ingestion path the platform already uses, with scope and effort agreed per engagement. FTK is a forensic toolkit for imaging and analysing digital evidence. It also accepts extractions produced by mobile tools, which means an FTK installation is often where material from several sources has already been brought together, and that makes it a useful single point to ingest from.
How it connects
The connection would read media exported from FTK rather than reaching into its cases directly, so the examiner remains the one who decides what is evidence. Media would be transcribed and indexed so audio and video are searchable by a case team, and case identifiers would arrive as attributes so material files against the right matter.
Because FTK frequently holds material that originated elsewhere, an engagement would settle how origin is recorded. Media that came into FTK from a mobile extraction has a provenance older than FTK itself, and the library's custody record needs to reflect the actual chain rather than showing FTK as the origin of everything. That is a scoping conversation rather than a technical obstacle, and it is the one worth having first.
Everything would land under the library's access control, retention and chain of custody, and scope would be agreed so what is ingested is the identified evidence rather than everything the tool holds.
What you can do together
- Search recovered audio and video in the case file, so review does not require a forensic licence or forensic training.
- Ingest from one place where FTK has already consolidated material from several sources.
- Record the true origin of each item, including material that entered FTK from a mobile extraction.
- Keep review access separate from access to the forensic evidence itself.
A scenario
- ScopingThe engagement would agree how origin is recorded for material that entered FTK from elsewhere, and what is exported for ingest.
- SetupThe connection would be configured once to pick up exported media.
- After analysisRecordings are transcribed and indexed and attached to their matter under the library's controls.
- ReviewCase teams at the requesting agencies search and review in the library without touching the forensic environment.
- AuditEach item's custody shows its real chain, including the mobile extraction it originally came from.
What stays where
FTK remains the forensic toolkit
Imaging, analysis and its own records stay there.
The examiner decides what is exported
The connection reads that export rather than reaching into a case.
Origin is recorded truthfully
Material that entered FTK from a mobile extraction keeps that provenance rather than appearing to originate in FTK.
Processing runs where you deploy the platform
Shared or dedicated SaaS, your own cloud, on premises, or air-gapped, which forensic work often requires.
