What is FOIA request management software?

The same workflow serves federal FOIA requests and state open records requests; what changes is which exemptions apply and who hears an appeal.
Does it cover state open records laws, or only the federal FOIA?
Both. Federal requests are handled under FOIA exemptions 1 through 9. State and local requests are handled under their own statutes, including the California Public Records Act, New York's FOIL, New Jersey's OPRA and the Georgia Open Records Act, with the exemption codes those laws recognize.
How are FOIA exemptions handled?
Every redaction is mapped to its statutory basis under exemption codes 1 through 9 and shown on the output without exposing the content beneath. Privilege logs are generated as you work, listing each withheld item with its basis and reviewing officer.
Can it redact body cam and CCTV video for FOIA requests?
Yes. Bulk redaction runs across video, audio, images, documents, and PDFs together, tested past a million recordings, so a request touching hundreds of hours of footage is a queue, not a crisis.
Do redactions alter the original records?
No. Disclosure copies carry the redactions while the source records stay intact and in custody. Transparent redaction mode lets adjudicators review what sits under each redaction during oversight, and the audit trail survives appeal.
What is the difference between FOIA, FOIL, and CPRA?
FOIA is the federal statute. States have their own: FOIL in New York, CPRA in California, OPRA in New Jersey, and equivalents elsewhere, each with its own exemptions and deadlines. Redactions here are justified under your state statute, not a generic label.
How does automated redaction speed up responses?
