Your Video Library Inside Any Learning Platform That Speaks LTI 1.3
LTI 1.3 is the open standard for connecting external tools to a learning management system. Any LMS that supports it can host Nexus, the portal behind the Enterprise Video Platform (EnterpriseTube) solution, as a tool inside its courses. Learners reach video from the course rather than from a separate portal, and quiz results flow back to the gradebook. The LMS keeps running the courses, roles and gradebook it runs today.
How it connects
Connecting an LMS uses LTI 1.3 dynamic registration, validated by a one-time token against an allowlist, so it is a short configuration step. Blackboard, Canvas, D2L Brightspace and Moodle carry documented setup. Any other LTI 1.3 platform connects on the same general path, without a named integration. An LMS not listed in the catalog is therefore a matter of configuration rather than development.
Once registered, the traffic starts in the course. Roles map from the LMS at launch. An instructor building a course browses the Nexus library through deep linking, selects content, and the selection returns to the LMS as a launchable item. A learner who opens it stays in the course while the video streams from Nexus, and analytics accrue in Nexus, where the content is.
Scores travel the other way. Quiz results on Nexus content go to the LMS gradebook automatically on submission, and through manual grading where a response needs review. Grade passback depends on the LMS exposing the LTI Assignment and Grade Service. Over LTI the video itself does not move into the LMS. Where the LMS has to own a copy, SCORM packaging covers that case as a separate path.
What you can do together
Connect the LMS you already run
Nexus reaches any LTI 1.3 platform on the general path, so an LMS with no catalog entry of its own needs configuration, not development.
Build the course from inside the LMS
Deep linking opens the Nexus library to an instructor while she builds a course. The item she selects returns to the course as a launchable item.
Let the gradebook record the quiz
Quiz results on Nexus content reach the LMS gradebook on submission, so scores land in the gradebook the course already uses.
Keep video and its analytics together
Learners watch inside the course while the video streams from Nexus, so analytics accrue in the library that holds the recording.
A scenario
- Registration, Monday morningThe university's LMS administrator connects Nexus through dynamic registration, using a one-time token checked against the allowlist. Nexus is now a tool the courses can use.
- Course build, WednesdayA nursing instructor assembling a clinical skills module opens the Nexus library from inside the course through deep linking. She selects three recorded lab demonstrations, and each returns to the module as a launchable item.
- First week of termA student opens the first demonstration from the module. She arrives with the role the LMS gave her, and the video plays inside the course, streaming from Nexus.
- That eveningShe completes the quiz on the recording and her score appears in the LMS gradebook on submission. One response needs review, so the instructor grades it manually and that result reaches the gradebook too.
- End of termThe instructor reads final scores in the LMS gradebook and reviews the analytics for each demonstration in Nexus.
What stays where
The LMS stays as it is
Courses, roles and the gradebook remain in the learning platform the institution already runs. Roles map from it at launch, and connecting asks one registration of its administrator.
Nexus keeps the video
Recordings, and the analytics that accrue as learners watch, stay in the Nexus library. The course holds a launchable item, and the video streams from Nexus when a learner opens it.
The standard is the connection
LTI 1.3 is an open standard, so an LMS reaches Nexus because it speaks LTI 1.3, not because of a named integration. Grade passback also needs the LMS to expose the LTI Assignment and Grade Service.
Processing runs where you put it
Nexus is offered as shared SaaS, a dedicated instance, in your own cloud, on your own servers or air-gapped. The LTI capabilities are available in each.
