Integration brief ContentfulContent Management and Web

One Video Library Behind Every Front End

Contentful stores structured content and serves it over an API to whatever front ends a team builds, so there are no pages in the usual sense for a plugin to attach to. That suits this connection, because neither half of it needs one. Nexus, the portal behind the Enterprise Video Platform (EnterpriseTube) solution, holds the media and an entry carries a reference to it, while Contentful's own MCP server is what an agent works through. No Contentful-specific module is required, and none is shipped.

What you can do together

  • Model video as a field on an entry and render it in every front end that consumes the delivery API, from one library rather than one upload per channel.
  • Name the front ends allowed to embed, and refuse the rest, while signed URLs stop a content address from being shared onward.
  • Let an agent work against the content model itself through Contentful's server, so an entry can be found, checked or drafted without a connector being built for it.
  • Read engagement on embedded media back per surface, so a video's performance on the marketing site is distinguishable from the same video in the help centre.

How it connects

Video becomes another content type. A field on an entry holds the reference to the item in Nexus, modeled and edited in Contentful like any other field, and the media is never copied in. Editors keep working in Contentful, and developers keep consuming the delivery API.

Rendering is the JavaScript widget, placed by the front end wherever that field is filled. The documented set covers video, audio, image, document, collection and playlist players, media library gallery and detail views, insights, transcription, maps, carousel and collage, quiz and survey players and a mashup filter, so a front end can render a browsable library or a search view from the same field. This is the path the shipped WordPress and SharePoint integrations already run on, and it works in any front end that renders HTML.

The domain list matters more here than on a single site. Embedding is restricted to approved domains, so every front end that should render video is named and anything else refused, and content URLs are signed and expire. Each embed resolves against the viewer's identity, so an entry restricted in Nexus renders without its video for someone who may not see it, whichever application asked for it.

Separately, Contentful publishes an MCP server and AI Intelligence Hub connects to MCP servers as a client. The connection is configured once with a name, the server URL, the transport and the headers carrying its credential, and the tool list is fetched when it binds rather than coded in. That credential is the boundary: what an agent can read or change in Contentful is what the credential is granted there.

How it works ContentfulContent Management and Web

A scenario

  1. ModelingA developer adds a video reference field to the article and feature content types. Nothing about the media itself enters Contentful.
  2. PublishingA writer fills the field on a release note from the library picker. The same entry is consumed by the marketing site and the help centre.
  3. RenderingEach front end renders the widget from that field. Both domains are on the approved list; a staging domain that was not is refused, which is how a leak of pre-release video is prevented rather than noticed.
  4. A restricted itemAn unreleased feature video is limited in Nexus to the product group. The entry still publishes, and for an outside reader the article renders without the player.
  5. LaterAn editor asks the assistant which release notes reference a video that has since been retired. The agent reads the content model through Contentful's server and lists the entries to fix.

What stays where

Contentful remains the content platform

Entries, the content model and the delivery API are unchanged, and the video reference is one more field among them.

The media stays in the library

Files, transcripts, access rules, retention and analytics live in Nexus. Front ends render a view of it rather than a copy of it.

The credential is the boundary on the Contentful side

What an agent reaches through the MCP server is what its configured credential is granted, so scoping that credential is the control.

Processing runs where you deploy the platform

Shared or dedicated SaaS, your own cloud subscription, or your own servers. Reaching Contentful's hosted server needs a network path to it.
